Engineering projects & hardware development

We don't only make parts to order. Our real strength is where circuit design (PCB), micromechanics and industrial carbon-fibre manufacturing meet to solve hard hardware problems.

iMac Pro 5K Studio Display Conversion Board

Turning a retired or broken iMac Pro 27" into a standalone, sharp 5K Retina display with a custom controller board and integrated carbon-fibre mounts.

01. The challenge of Apple's 5K eDP signal

The iMac Pro has one of the best 5K IPS panels around (5120×2880, DCI-P3 wide colour, 500 nits). When the Intel Xeon logic board fails, the whole screen becomes useless. The panel needs dual 8-lane eDP (Embedded DisplayPort) at very high frequency and complex power control for the 64-zone LED backlight.

02. Our solution: a custom controller PCB

We designed our own multilayer board (logic board replacement) in KiCad with controlled impedance for high-speed eDP. The board takes DisplayPort 1.4 and modern USB-C, handles signal multiplexing without latency and drives the panel backlight with thermal monitoring.

03. Mechanical integration in PAHT-CF carbon fibre

To keep the iMac's space grey unibody chassis, we designed 3D-printed mounting adapters and I/O cover plates in annealed carbon fibre (PAHT-CF). They use the original screw mounts and cooling channels without modifying the chassis.

iPod reborn: 6-layer drop-in main board, hi-fi DAC & AMOLED

Instead of fiddly adapter cables in a cramped case, we reverse engineered Apple's mechanical and electrical design and built a completely new 6-layer 0.8 mm ENIG drop-in main board with USB-C, a 32-bit I²S hi-fi DAC, Bluetooth and an AMOLED bridge.

01. From 30-pin and a hard drive to clean 6-layer HDI

Our replacement main board (`releases/v1.1`, verified with 0 DRC errors in KiCad) reuses the iPod's iconic case and capacitive click wheel, but replaces everything inside with a modern design: microSDXC storage, a fast-charging BQ25895 PMIC and a custom USB-C board (`v1.2`) in the original opening.

02. 600×450 RM690B0 AMOLED & 8080 parallel bridge

The original 320×240 TFT panel is replaced with a high-contrast 2.41" 600×450 AMOLED panel driven over an 8-bit 8080 parallel interface through our passive 32-pin DDK/Hirose FPC adapter with an integrated 3D-printed mounting cradle.

03. Audiophile I²S chain & dual-mode Bluetooth

Separate analogue and digital ground planes feed a dedicated Burr-Brown/TI `PCM5102A` 32-bit DAC for clean wired audio, together with a dedicated Bluetooth A2DP transmitter for modern wireless headphones.

AI-driven code-CAD: snap-lock adapter

From photos of a caliper to a dust extractor adapter that fits exactly, with an integrated snap lock and an 18° ergonomic spout. Developed with multimodal AI and Python in under an hour, without a traditional CAD program.

01. Multimodal AI reads the caliper and scale

The machine was photographed with a digital caliper and a steel rule against the flanges. AI vision found the centre of the opening, the asymmetric slot offset and the distance to the machine's spring clips with sub-millimetre precision.

02. Parametric code-CAD (Python + build123d)

The geometry was built as code on top of OpenCASCADE. Analytic lofts blend the asymmetric obround into an 18° angled conical spout without approximation errors. Fully version controlled in Git.

03. Tough PETG & zero supports

Designed with a 2.5 mm solid locking lip that gives a clear click fit and handles the vibration from an orbital 20V sander. Printed flat on the bed with zero supports and 4 solid walls for full vacuum tightness.
